This game looks like it will be decided by whichever team can contain the other’s running back. The Wyoming defense will be stout against the Northern Illinois Offense, and if the Cowboys can get Sean Chambers and Xazavian Valladay going, this game will be close for a half before the Cowboys pull away and seal the win with a dominant second half.
Wyoming will need to play at a higher level this week than it did in last week’s season opener. The Cowboys were 19-point favorites against Montana State, but it was anything but a comfortable win. They fell behind 7-0 less than five minutes into the contest. A Wyoming field goal late in the second quarter marked the only other points scored prior to halftime. Montana State held its 7-3 lead going into the final quarter, where Wyoming took a 9-7 lead on a two-yard touchdown run from Xazavian Valladay. The Cowboys failed on a two-point conversion and Montana State re-took the lead on a field goal.
Wyoming scored 19 points in their first game. They threw for 196 yards and rushed for 151 yards in the game.
Sean Chambers completed 57.7 percent of their passes for 196 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also rushed for 51 yards in the win. Xazavian Valladay led the team with 77 rushing yards and one touchdown, while Ayden Eberhardt had four receptions for 71 yards.
Wyoming did a better job on the defensive end, giving up 16 points. They will need a similar effort if they want to win this game.
