Blow off the loss. This is a decent RedHawk team with a good enough defense to make the Gophers work, and with a receiving corps that can hit the big play if QB AJ Mayer gets a little time to work.

The Miami RedHawks played just 3 games in 2020. The rust was evident in their first game of the 2021 season against Cincinnati, as the Bearcats dominated with a 49-14 win. Miami’s offense did not manage to score a point until late in the 4th quarter when things were already decided. The quarterback position is in flux as projected starter and 2019 MAC Freshman of the Year Brett Gabbert has suffered a multitude of injuries this offseason. AJ Mayer started in his place against Cincinnati and had a rough day. He completed just 9 of his 28 pass attempts for 109 yards. Gabbert is questionable for this game, but even if he goes it will be his first game in almost a year with limited practices coming off of multiple injuries. Minnesota’s defense had a tough time slowing down Ohio State’s offense, but there is no shame in that. The Gophers should have a better defensive day against the RedHawks in this one.

This one shouldn’t be thought of too much. The Gophers want to avenge themselves after an overall great showing against Ohio State. With one more game before heading to Colorado, the Gophers need to get in the win column before traveling west. Gophers win 52-14.
