Guardiola returns as City show defiance against PSG
Manchester City’s return to the Etihad Stadium was marked by a show of defiance, even as PSG produced what BBC’s Phil McNulty described as a masterclass. The game also carried extra significance with Pep Guardiola back at the centre of the story.
According to McNulty, City responded with resolve in a contest that was described as one of “glorious chaos”. That reaction gave the performance a clear edge beyond the result itself, with City refusing to be overawed by PSG’s quality.
Guardiola’s return added to the sense of occasion and underlined the tactical importance of the match. City’s response to PSG will be read as a timely statement about their form and mentality.
The BBC report framed the night as one in which City showed resistance in difficult circumstances, while PSG delivered the sort of performance that demanded attention. It was a contest that combined drama, quality and uncertainty throughout.
