Martinez apologises as United comments spark debate
Lisandro Martinez has apologised after comments made in the aftermath of Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid, but BBC pundits have questioned whether the damage has already been done.
On Champions League Match of the Day, Nedum Onuoha, Stephen Warnock and Rory Smith analysed the defender’s remarks and the possible effect they could have on the club. The discussion centred on whether the apology is enough to ease any tension his comments may have created.
The remarks have prompted controversy around United at a time when squad dynamics are under scrutiny. According to the BBC, the situation could have implications for short-term form if the issue continues to unsettle the dressing room.
For now, the key question is whether Martinez’s apology will draw a line under the episode or whether it leaves a lingering problem for Manchester United to manage.
